I'm waffling between buying a Panasonic Plasma HDTV (TH-58PZ700U) or the Samsung HLT6187SAX 61" DLP or similar.
I've read that Samsung has done away with the bulb (that often needs replacing) and has LED's.  Can you weigh on this decision or on the latest DLP tech. vs. plasma?  My uses for the set will be mostly dvd-movies, HD cable TV (pay per view & broadcast tv), sports, and just a bit of xbox (I have girls so not much game playing, just dance-dance revolution and karioke-type stuff).  There are no windows in the room so light reflection is not a concern.  And, this TV will be on a stand, not wall-mounted.
Thanks for your help.

Honestly my first choice would be the Pioneer PDP-6010 but you're talking about a jump in price. Either way I  would absolutely choose the plasma over the DLP rear projection. You don't get the height and angle sensitivity and the plasma has a life expectancy of 60,000 which is 20 years at 8 hour a day.
We are authorized dealers for both so we would be happy to sell and install the product if you so desire.
We have been selling and installing flat panel TVs of all kinds for almost 10 years and we like plasma the best. Feel free to contact me if we can of any further assistance.

Thanks very much,
Barry

We have not yet installed the newer LED type televisions, so I cannot comment on its performance over the 58" Plasma set.  We have however, installed a few of the Panasonic 58" plasma TVs(never really blew me away).  So I will base my choices solely on your description of viewing.  The idea of a thin panel type television is for mounting in a way to have off access viewing or to create more floor space in a small area or room.  Also, Plasma type TVs still do not like video gaming(you might use xbox you said).  Finally, your will definitely get better blacks with the LED than with the Plasma.  With that, I think the better choice would be to go with the Samsung.  I think it will out perform the Plasma set in your situation by a large margin.  Good luck with your decision and let us know if we can be of assistance in the future.
