Your presumption that round top/circle top doors being a custom door to replace is correct.
Often they are set within a masonry  wall. It may be just a masonry veneer or it could be completely masonry.

The interior is often plaster or plaster/stucco.
This complicates the replacement process. For one, no one knows how fragile the interior and exterior wall surfaces are.

In a replacement situation we must replace the door  jamb  (or frame)  the exterior casings (usually brick moldings), interior casings and the weatherstripping.. These must be done together as a unit in the factory because of the curved top door. Everything needs to made to fit it properly in the factory. It can not be done on the jobsite or in my opinion should not be attempted on the jobsite.

Patching of the walls may be necessary.

The option to restore the door should be examined. I should point out that presuming these doors are somewhere between 120 and 80 years old that it may not be possible to bring them up to the standards of a new enery efficient unit. 1)They are painted and no one knows what is really under the paint. 2)they may be split, warped and structually unsound or unrepairable.3)the hardware may not be replaceable. Modern technology can not make it or even me new again.4)many that I have seen were never constructed and installed properly to begin with.

In the worst case scenario no one can judge the time and therefore the cost to restore them. An agreement between the Owner and the Craftsman needs to be arrived at as to the definition of the terms used and the scope and the limits. A known  budget is mandatory in a restoration.

I suppose that everyone understands by now that either the replacement or restoration is neither easy nor inexpensive? Given the time and the proper customer I will do these restorations or replacements.

Hi
The circle top door that have is very well made and to replace one is about $12.000.00
You can refurbish the inside door with less than to replace. The out side storm screen door we can custom make one and install for about $1,600 to $2,400 depends on size and style.

Thank You
