Re: Insulating an existing home: Cellulose versus Icynene
We want to insulate our 80-year old Tudor (Stucco); we have to do this from the outside because inside is full of built-ins. Home has monstrous drafts which we can't seal due to said built-ins.
What's the better option for us: Cellulose or Icynene? Advantages / Disadvantages of both?
Thanks!

HI - Probably the only option is dense pack cellulose. Icynene is used when the cavities are fully exposed. It is a better air seal which is very important but the cellulose is the same insulating (R) value and costs less to install. I don't do any insulating but my energy audit can help find air leaks that can then be sealed to help with the drafts. I also do thermal imaging to make sure that the insulation is installed correctly. I offer a free walkthrough of your home that you may find helpfull before you do any work. Thanks. which insulation product that you use really depends on how long you are going to live in the house. icynene has a greater draft resistance then cellulose, but it cost more. one really needs to know your intentions, and see the house to determine which is more cost effective.
