I would have to see the stain, but if it is growing in size, it could be mold. Mold can be very dangerous to one's health and can continue to grow and be in places you can't see. Any time there has been a leak or any type of water intrusion, the house should be inspected for mold, which is a fungus that likes to grow where there is water. I would recommend a mold inspection which would entail looking at the situation and taking samples for analysis to determine what it is.  If you wish to pursue this and set up an appointment,  please contact Certified Inspections, Inc. at 914 736-3165.

It sounds as if the leak you had last year might have had something toi do with the stain. Is this correct? If so, it could be mold or mildew. Do you have any pets? Could that be the source of the stain? Please tell us more and we will try to guide you. Sorry for delay in answering...we are just getting used to this site. Home Inspection Associates
