Hi, I want to install a ceiling light fixture in my living room.  There is no electrical box in the ceiling so I need someone to bring power from an existing switched wall outlet up to a ceiling box.  The total distance (up the wall and across ceiling) is about 17 ft.  I live in a condo (6 floors) and the original ceilings are concrete slab but the previous owner had a sheet rock ceiling installed so the gap between the sheetrock and the concrete slab is no more than 3".  I would also need that person to patch any access holes that were  cut in the wall or ceiling.  How much can I expect to be charged for that? thanks. -eb

To whom it may concern:

Hanging a ceiling fan can be tricky.  Along with getting the proper wires you must have the proper type of box that will support  the weight of the fan.  New types of control devices now serve as light dimmers and speed controls for the fan.  We install this type of equipment routinely.  For a professiomnal ceiling fan installation you are looking at $300.
