Im 20 years old, and in the past few years my weight has been yo-yo ing up and down, within the realm of 15 pounds or so. In addition, I also have excessively oily skin. I was wondering if there was a way to treat both of these things together, and how to go about that. I have been considering the holistic approach.

Dear 20 year old from Chappaqua,

There are many  ways to prevent yo-yo dieting.  Often simply reducing carbs AND changing the type of carbs you eat will make a HUGE difference!  Also, exercising is critical to a healthy weight.  It's important to do both cardio and weight-training as well as proper stretching or yoga.   The diet needs to be balanced with protein, vegetables, healthy oils like olive oil, fresh fruits containing less sugar i.e. berries, and some healthy carbs like brown rice or rice pasta.   Oily skin is usually a hormone imbalance and can be affected by eating fried foods or other foods contributing to the hormone imbalance.   It does take time to correct the oily skin.  Also, skin hygiene is critical.  There are healthy skincare products that effectively treat skin problems.   So as you can see  you can help yourself holistically!

Feel free to call my office if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

Dina Khader, MS, RD, CDN, MIFHI

re: Stubborn Weight

Stubborn weight is often tied into excess cortisol in the body, although it may also be due to a thyroid, liver, or ovary problem.

My approach is to find out exactly what is associated with your stubborn weight and then setting up a nutritional, exercise, and treatment plan to help you lose the weight (once and for all!)

I would love to help you with your weight loss goals.  You may e-Mail me at painreliefcare@aol.com or call my office 914.592.1733.
