What would be the most cost effective way to repair an exterior wood deck that's starting to chip?  The wood hasn't been treated in a long time, and the wood was last painted a few years ago using an exterior paint just to give it color.  Also, and above ground pool was previously at the end of the deck, which has been removed so the end of the deck has a wood gate that's fastened to the deck.  I was like to remove that gate to put a new railing, but was concerned that removing this would also chip the wood.  The deck is approximately 26x14.  Can chip in wood deck be repaired?  Would resanding and refinishing to the trick?  Any idea on costs?Thank you,

Pressure Treated Wood that is in good condition can always be reconditioned for the most part. Simple repairs based upon the severity of the situation can be made by replacing deck boards, parts of railings or even flipping over the original board as it hasn't been exposed to anything but water and weather less than the top. There are two ways to refinish a deck, the first is to power wash and apply a stain like "One Time Wood" or a high quality Thompson Water Seal. You want something that will last 5-7 years since cleaning the deck each year with such detail is very time consuming. The other method is to sand the deck down a smidge and then apply the deck treatment. This gives you a smooth surface but you will need to make sure that all screws and/or fasteners are counter sunk first to avoid damaging them. Although fasteners can be replaced, take some precautionary measure in advance.
