I have been unemployed for a year and a half. I have approximately $15,000 worth of debt, much of it in credit cards. I am a single mother and I have also been caring for an extremely ill daughter which makes it difficult for me to return to work at this time. I have virtually been ignoring collector's phone calls as I can't afford even a debt reduction plan at this time. Should I declare bankruptcy? My credit is "shot" anyway!!

Yes, you should file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection b/c the creditors are not going to go away. I am assuming you do not own a house, are suing anyone as a result of a physical injury and you do not have more the $2,500 in your bank accounts.  Chapter 13 is when you agree to pay back some of your debt over a 3 or 5 year period of time.

I am a solo practitioner and have filed over 500 Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Petitiions over the past 10 years.
