I have a Frigidaire Gallery Gas Range--about 12 years old--and we used the oven self clean function yesterday. It appeared to go through the self-cleaning cycle, but now we can't get the door to the oven open--even this morning more than 1 hour after the self cleaning cycle was completed. What should we do? How do we get the oven door open again? And, does this problem prevent us from using the gas stovetop?

Before you contact a repair company, reset the circuit breaker and read your owners manual.  Also get info from frigidaire.com or call them directly.  If you can't find your owners manual you can download it from their website.  Depending on the type of range you have, I was able to get this info off the frigidaire website:

. Oven door will not open after self-clean cycle.

  • Automatic locking models (models without locking handle) door is unlocked electrically.
Check owner guide for instructions on unlocking door.
  • Manual locking models (models with locking handle).
Set selector switch to clean and move the handle manually.

Good luck solving your issue.  If you find no suitable resolution, you may contact us: Belgrove Appliance, Inc. at (914) 664-5231.

You can still use your stove top for cooking.  The lock on the self cleaning mechanism is probably just stuck.

At Belgrove Appliance, Inc. we don't believe that a technician always has to come out to solve your appliance problem.  We do our best to educate our customers so they can make informed decisions.  Please take a look at our website www.stovelady.com.  We have customers all over the US and can't always visit them to resolve their issues.  However, if you are local it is more time efficient to set up a service call, especially if something could be a danger to the client.
