I went through a bankruptcy in 2002. In the past couple of years I've had credit card accounts closed due to non payment which happened because I became injured on the job and recently was retired due to the disability. If the creditors or collection agencies offer me a reduced payoff amount Will that hurt my credit score any worse than if i pay the total owed in small increments?? Or does it not matter either way...I believe its at the point where it wont matter either way bad is bad

I am not an expert in this area but I believe it would be better for you to use a credit counseling service to restructure your debt  and set up a manageable monthly payment plan if you are trying to rebuild your credit rating. I recommend you contact one of the credit bureaus to get their opinion on this.

Edward Jones is a full service investment firm and my office is located in Bedford Hills.

Please let me know if I can help any further.

I would want to review your current credit scores, debt and income before advising you either way. However, if you can settle EVERYTHING and put it ALL behind you; it would may be best to take the hit to your credit and move forward. But again it all depends on all the other factors in your situation.

Lanzana Advisors helps people to better manage their debt. Feel free to contact Bill at 914-206-5115.
