Yes! We recommend to get the gutters cleaned at least two times a year. Once after all leafs fall and again in the spring to make sure there is no water clogging the gutters.
Most home owners don’t think about gutters very much,  this is a very important part of your house. If you don’t take care of them, you can end up with  water infiltration that can damage the foundation of the house and with that you can  also end up with much more problems and  lots of bills. In the summer they also have to be clean so you don’t get any WEST NILE eggs on it, as we all   know mosquito’s like to lay there eggs were there is water.

Yes, you do need to clean them before winter, however, you need to wait until most of the leaves are dropped over and around your house or you will end up doing the work twice!

Clogged gutters are one of the biggest reasons people have basement leaks!  Instead of the leaders (that's the downspout part that brings the water from the gutter to away from the foundation) directing water away from the house, a clogged gutter creates overflow and pooling of water around the house.

Clogged gutters will also contribute to ice damming conditions in the winter, allowing the ice to build and creep up under your shingles.  Also, pools formed in clogged gutters are breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.

Clean gutters at least once per year after leaf drop.  Makes sure your leaders are free from clogs and flow (you can put the garden hose down it to be sure).  Make sure you have some kind of water disperser at the end of the leaders to direct water away from your foundation.

Good luck with your new home!
