Do you know of any acting workshops for adults?  I am a mature adult who studied acting in my teens, looking to take some acting classes for fun.

I am the Program Coordinator of Howard Meyer's Acting Program, http://www.hmacting.org/. We have been offering classes to students just like yourself in Westchester for 15 years now and we are conveniently located in Pleasantville. We offer our Basic Technique class in two six week sections, the next section will begin on January 5th, 09. In all our years teaching students the majority of folks who find us are adults of all levels of experience and interest. We enjoy teaching everyone, whatever their background and goals. There are many people who's are taking acting with us for the very first time. We know how scary it can be to begin acting. Rachel Jones, our Basic Technique teacher, creates an environment that is very supportive and nurturing. Howard Meyer, our founder created a special page on our web-site addressing his early experiences as a young actor. Here is an excerpt from that page: "The fear is natural. Acting puts us at risk; but it is the risk of possibility, of expansion, of enrichment and energy -- of life. And, of course that can be frightening. Our staff consists of teachers who deeply understand the vulnerable nature of acting and will honor your humble beginnings just like I do." For the rest of Mr. Meyer's message to Beginners please go to: http://www.hmacting.org/offer.html In our classes our goal is to help you foster a connection to your truths; what you value and where you feel deeply. You will learn how to apply these insights to the creative process of acting, wherein you will realize the joy of full creative expression. We draw on an array of exercises developed by the best theater minds of the 20th-century to help you build a craft that is personal and accessible. These exercises make it possible for you to take the creative leap into the imaginary world of the play and the life of the character. We place emphasis on learning, exploring and becoming comfortable with the process of creative and personal exploration. This is accomplished through individual and group exercise work, and applications of these exercises to monologues and scenes. Presentations of work are always treated as rehearsals and explorations; not as performances. Although sincere commitment is expected "delivering results" is greatly discouraged. Acting is a process, and like learning any craft, it takes time, patience and commitment. Remember, the reason why so many of those great actors that we love make it look so easy, is that they have been honing their craft for years. But in even one semester you will experience real growth as an actor and find out how most of the great actors in this country approach their craft. Folks who are interested can call and talk to us personally. We look forward to hearing from you! Best, Nancy Intrator
