I AM MOVING TO A HOUSE IN HARRISON WHERE I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GAS HEATING BILL. MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN IN A SECONS FLOOR RENTAL IN PELHAM FOR 16 YEARS, BUT MY YOUNGEST SON WAS IN A MASSIVE ACCIDENT LAST YEAR AND IS IN A WHEELCHAIR, SO WE HAVE TO MOVE IN ORDER TO BRING HIM HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME, AND I JUST CAN'T GET IN OVER MY HEAD, BUT WITH MICHAEL'S BRAIN INJURY IT IS IMPORTANT THAT HE STAYS WARM. THE PREVIOUS TENANTS HAD HALF OF THE BILL PAID BY THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT, SO THEY USED ALL UTILITIES TO THE MAX, SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE EXPENSES WILL BE, AND I NEED TO BE CAREFUL FROM THE BEGINNING. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

I'm very glad that this question came across the Zoomnia forum. It's a great concern to many families and the state programs do not seem to be very well advertised. There are several things you can do as a Consolidated Edison (ConEd) customer depending on income qualifications and the landlords agreement to any work being done. We are involved in several programs to help reduce gas and electric usage but are not allowed to solitate the service. I can certainly head you in the right direction and would be more than willing to stop by your house (no charge) to get you started. Depending on your budget, there are several things that can be done at a very low cost that will make a difference in your heating bill. Call me any time at the number listed and we can get you started. John
