I have a termite contract on my house.  Every year I pay to continue this contract. I have had it since I moved in about 13 years ago.  For this payment, a little over $200 a year,  I receive a yearly inspection and a guarantee that if there is damage from a particular kind of termite (not all temites and not carpenter ants) the company will treat my house but will not repair the damage.

Is this the best way to go or am I throwing my money away?

Termites are a very complicated problem that if not treated properly can lead to much damage and high cost of repair. Pest control companies offer a wide variety of solutions and guarantees utilizing different technologies.

It is common to exclude Carpenter ants from a termite warrantee as the treatments are specific to the biology of termites and not carpenter ants or other wood destroying insects. The solutions are very different. Additionally,  most warrantees cover only the species of termite that were specifically observed. Again, biology of different species of termite may differ.

It is also common that the warrantee cover only the treatment and future occurrence of termite activity and not repairs to damage because termite damage can look like other forms of damage.

For your case, after 13 years of treatment, if there is no evidence of continuing activity, cancelling may be an option as there might not be anything left to treat. There is of course the risk that activity may start up again with a new colony of termites, and then with no warrantee you will have to pay for treatment all over again. Weigh your options carefully.
