You can free space by using Windows Find program in Windows XP. This is accessible by pressing the Windows Logo key + "F". Choose "All files and folders" and then "What size is it". Specify at least 5000 (KB) and press ENTER. Windows XP will find all the large files on the system. Use this as a starting place to see what is taking up all the space on your machine! To be thorough, call my company, Orange Crystal Consulting at 914-469-7545. Using remote support we can quickly log into your machine and assess what files are taking up the most space and also detect if there is some viral process which is causing the hard disk to "fill up". Without knowing what the file are, it is not smart to randomly delete large files. Commonly and regularly, more advanced users clear their Internet cache and temporary files. We can show you where these are and how to get rid of them. Don't forget about the Recycle Bin. We are also experts on System Restore and can show you how to delete these shadow files which also continue to take up space. Our company can also assist you in upgrading your hard drive or adding a second internal drive. Visit our web site at http://www.orangecrystalconsulting.com. We provide complete computer, networking and programming solutions. Remember, call 914-469-7545 first. You'll be glad you did. We have over 26 years of experience and are A+ and Apple certified.

Freeing up space can be done in several ways. The easiest and safest way is to go under control panels and double click on add/remove programs. (Vista is Programs and Features) Here you will see a ;list of all installed applications. You can remove programs that you really don't use or need. Just don't remove items you are unsure of such as video and anti-virus software. Another way would be to take items such as documents, pictures, video and music and burn onto CD for archieving purposes assuming you have a CD/RW. One way to also increase space would be an external hard drive, you would just plug this into an available USB port and instantly you can obtain  gigs of extra space.

I recommend programs such as CCleaner(crap cleaner) Crap Cleaner removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. This deletes internet temp files as well as Window temp files that can add up pretty quickly.

The final and Last Resort is to Backup ... Format ... and reinstall ... you will not believe how much we accumulate over the years... it's amazing.
