I have been retired  from law enforcement since 4/2008 due to a permanent diability from the job. i began receiving partial pension checks starting in June. I am waiting on  the state to finish their calculations as well as waiting on workers compensation decision of benefits. We rent, we have two in college who got grants this year due to my disability(207c) income status last year. I have been told that my disability income is not taxable.  My wife is starting a job in October 2008. How can i find out how many dependants my wife should claim so we take home more money without paying come tax season.

YOU CAN ASK THE TOWN OR STATE YOU ARE GETTING THE DISABILITY INCOME FROM WHETHER IT IS TAXABLE OR NOT. TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH YOU WIFE SHOULD WITHHOLD, I WOULD SUGGEST A PROJECTION OF YOUR INCOME AND TAX FOR 2008 AND 2009, BE PREPARED BY AN ACCOUNTANT TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH WITHHOLDING TAX IS NEEDED, SO YOU DO NOT OWE ADDITIONAL TAX 4/15/09 OR 4/15/10. YOU WILL NEED THE DISABILITY PAY CALCULATION IN TOTAL TO GET AN ACCURATE CALCULATION AND OF COUSE WHETHER IT IS TAXABLE OR NOT.

I WOULD BE GALD TO HELP YOU PROJECT THE TAX YOU WILL OWE FOR 2008 AND 2009.
