What are the pros and cons of cooking with propane. Im thinking of purchasing a new home that has oil heat but a propane stove and fireplace as there is no natural gas in that area? Thanks!

Propane is almost the same as natural gas except its' output is a few BTUs lower, and you need to have a propane tank, usually supplied and owned by the propane service company. You pay the service company for the propane(and a tank service fee). You can also buy your own tank, but then it is your  responsibility for maintainence and certification of the tank.

The only con I can think of is the location of the propane storage tank. If you don't mind having a storage tank either outside the home (cosmetics) or in an  area around the home (under the deck) then you should have no resrvations about propane. The only other concern would be the age of the tank. Most tanks built today are very durable and reliable. If the tank is in poor condition you might want to consider replacing it. The pros are cheaper costs for cooking. Propane is very cheap compared to nat gas and electric prices. Should you have any questions feel free to visit our website for our contact info.

No problem cooking with propane. I've used it for 25 years, and I cook everyday.  I recommend having a stove that has a high BTU output so you can get a hotter flame.

If you need a home inspector to inspect the home, I can be reached at 914 736-3165.
