It's not a big deal, but it only puts a plug in your original problem. The door probably has condensation in it? Meaning the seals have failed, if this be true ,no matter what you do the new glass will only hold for a while. Your best bet is to change the entire door. Then again what is the warranty on your door, maybe you can get it fixed for free.Give me a call and we can see how we can solve your problem the most economically.

Hello,

To Answer your question, how much of a deal is it to replace a outer piece of glass on a sliding door to the rear deck. The glass is only about 6ft-4inchs, by 3 feet.

That would depend on whether it was the operating panel or the in-active panel, in either case the cost is in the TEMPERD GLASS. Here are a few questions to ask your self, 1-how old is the door now, 2- the cost for the IG Temp Glass now to replace your broken one may be about half the cost of a NEW DOOR, 3- How well does your present door slide or glide and lock now.

Replacing it with a new Marvin Sliding Patio door may just be what you need, if you like we can come out and give you a free estimate.

Replacing a glass panel in a sliding glass door isn't a big deal, but you can't do the outer glass only.    The insulated glass unit is constructed of two glass panels hermetically sealed to form a single glazed unit with an air space between each panel of glass.

Depending on your sliding glass door manufacturer, you can get stock replacements, or have them custom made at a glass & mirror contractor.

Generally speaking, this isn't a project most homeowners would undertake, but it's not very expensive either.  You have to weigh the cost of replacement of the whole door (how is the other side?  is the vinyl in good shape?  does the hardware work well) vs. replacement of just one panel.

Please call if you need more information!
