My husband is a professional photographer who has recently contracted a shoot for some site photography of an office building in the Westchester area.  He is being told by the building owner that he needs proof of insurance to be able to shoot at the site.  They mentioned obtaining "limited CGL coverage."  What is this, and since there is only one site requiring insurance is this the least expensive way to provide coverage?

My name is Michael Leff and I work for Brown & Brown Insurance Agency located in Purchase, NY.

It is an extremely good idea that your husdand obtain a General Liability policy just for this reason as more and more clients are requesting that the people they hire carry coverage in the event of a Liability concern.

We are a large insurance agency and would be available to assist this matter.

Please call me at 914-253-8400 if you wish to discuss this further.

Thanks

Michael Leff

A very good and fair question.  The building owner is making your husband carry insurance for his (the building owner's ) own protection.  If their is an occurance, that your husband causes ( ie: someone tripping over one of his camera cases ) ,and sues the building owner wants to make sure your husband has protection.  This way it will not be his policy that winds up with the possibility of paying the claim.

The reference to  "CGL" is a form of insurance covering liability only.  Depending on how your husbands equipment is covered it may or may not be the best way to go.  This can only be determined by getting the answers to a few questions.

Hopefully I have answered what you are looking for.

Andy

We are a full service insurance agency and we specialize in not only providing accurate coverage, but shop the market so that you may get the best value.  This is general liability for their protection during the shoot.  With any job the contractor, or independent contractor should provide a certificate for liability if there were to be an accident etc., if this is not a common occurance for you a temporary certificate should do it.  Please feel free to contact us if we may be of assistance.
