How do you get out of a sand trap of a green side bunker.  What club should I use? My skill level is a 12 handicapp and I play three times a week.

This is best accomplished with a sand wedge which would typically have 56 degrees of loft and approximately 12-14 degrees of bounce.  Your stance should be open (left of target) and the club face should be laid open to face the target.  In a properly struck bunker shot the club will never strike the ball.  It will strike the sand 1-2 inches behind the ball and the ball will be propelled by an "explosion" of sand.  This shot is probably best discussed with a qualified teaching professional.  We will be happy to recommend one in your area if you would like.  Thank you.

To get out of a greenside bunker, a right handed golfer need remember the three "L's"

Aim to the LEFT (aim more to the left to have the ball go higher) One must commit to swinging towards the "left" target when making the swing

Put your weight on your LEFT side (this will force an upright swing, resulting in a decending blow digging into the sand.

The ball need be positioned LEFT of the players centerline (center of chest)

Aim the face of the club to the ACTUAL target, choose a grain of sand or imperfection of some sort approximately 1.5 to 2 inches behind the ball and Make your swing entering the sand where you are looking.  Removing the sand from under the ball, extracting the sand and the ball out of the bunker.
