Hello my name is Tom and I am the owner of Dixie Landscape & Irrigation Contractors. Your question about your pond or " water garden " is hard to give a definate answer without actually seeing it. How old is your pond and has it been maintained every year was it covered for the fall/winter season to help keep leaves out. If you have just a little organic matter on the bottom this is fine and is actually ok for the Eco-system that you need to keep a healthy pond but if you have a large build up of leaves, sticks and dirt then you should have it cleaned. A healthly pond will create its own eco-system and the fish will eat the decaying matter on the bottom but if there is too much it won't break down and will actually help algae grow and cloud your pond. Also if you have too much decaying matter on the bottom of the pond parasites can live here and can cause disease in your fish. I hope this helps you any further questions or needs please feel free to contact me I have been in business for over 15 years and offer complete landscaping service, installations and maintenance and we are registered and fully insured.

Thank you,
